About alyssa01

I've been taking summer classes for the past month or so... and I hope to get back into writing as soon as possible! I'm going to have a lot of great reviews for you: Diablo II, Marvel vs Capcom II, and (hopefully) a few others!
New!!!
Sega Dreamcast review! (revised)
Diablo II review!
Napster review!
Vampire: Redemption review!!
Ultima Online: Renassaince review!
Epinions summary: I write epinions like this because many people are only after one aspect of the review. If you know what the game is about, skip the "storyline" section. If you've already played it once or twice and want to know whether to buy it or not, check out the "lastability" section.
Overview: This will be an overview of the game... exactly what one could find on the box or on a web site. A simple paragraph of sheer facts about what the game is.
Gameplay Mechanics: This is usually the longest section. Here I attempt to delve into the intricacies of the game itself, and how it works. Graphics glitch? You'll find it here. Menu problems? Here. Bad interface? Here again.
Storyline: Where applicable, this section is devoted to facts about the storyline. I try not to ruin any games with big stoylines (Parasite Eve, Silent Hill) but a little information on what to expect is here. My opinion on what they could have done to improve said storyline will be here as well.
Miscellaneous: Not always present in my reviews, this is where I offer warnings and words of advice to people thinking of buying the game. Anything that doesn't fit into the three categories above will be here, as well as anything I feel is important enough to emphasize.
Lastability: You won't find the word in the epinions dictionary, but it's a good one to describe what I put here. Quite simply, here I ask: will you want to play this again?
Rating: Here I give my opinion overall, as well as a sort of checklist for you to do: if you like this, then get this game. If you're looking for some other thing, then don't. Usually the shortest part of my epinions.
Ratings Summary: I give ratings based upon merit, not web of trust. We all have bad days. I won't hesitate to give a low rating if it deserves it, just as I won't hesitate to give a high rating if such is merited. And I always, always, always display my epinions ID with my rating.
Highly recommended: Reserved for epinions written not only with great content, but also great presentation. I don't care if it's the works of Shakespeare... if it's barely readable, then I can't give it a high rating.
Recommended: For those epinions that either have great content but lousy presentation, or decent content and decent presentation. I like to see not just an opinion, but also facts backing up that opinion. Anyone can say that they like or dislike something... tell us why!
Somewhat recommended: For those epinions that have a good idea lurking behind a mess. Excessive epinions, or ones that are rather short (barely the 100 word minimum) tend to garner this from me. You simply cannot tell me why you dislike or like something in just 100 words.
Not recommended: No facts to back up an opinion. Extremely poor grammar and obvious plagarism go here as well. One of my pet peeves is bad grammar, and I won't hesitate to dish this out if you deserve it... there's a spell checker in the system!
That's my ratings system. Mostly, what I'm after is a good, thoughtful, clear review that's easily presentable. Separate your main points with spaces or, better yet, bold typeface categories. It will make a difference! Use facts to back up your opinion, as well. In addition to giving out information about the product (remember, we're reading your epinion because we're thinking of spending money on the thing about which you are talking!) you will be coming across as more erudite if you can cite specific reasons why you like or dislike a product.
