laweiler1's Full Review: Ultima Online Renaissance for Windows
Well many have asked where I have been, so I decided to share with you the game that has taken my life away from Epinions.com. Please step into my world and rediscover yourself through Ultima Online Renaissance edition. Please make sure to stop by www.uo.com for any other additional information that isn’t in this review of the game. This review will not be a step by guide on how to play, but it will show you some of the process to make for an enjoyable event.
Have you ever wanted to be someone else, maybe someone who can make things, maybe a mage or just a person who is gun shy with people but yet wants friends to interact with and do things with. If you like adventure, thrills and especially enjoy getting rid of some stress then this is the game for you. Not only can you be anything or everything you want to be, but also you can role-play and interact with others.
When you first install the program, which is a basic install, you open your Ultima Online browser to a menu where you create a User name and Password. Like any other game or service, do not give out your information to anyone. Once you log in you choose a particular shard (there are about 10 of them for you to choose) and then you create your character. Your character does not disappear. This is your character for as long as you play the game, unless you choose to delete it later on. You can create up to 5 characters on each shard. Each character can be someone else and you create the name of each one. Examples of these are mine: Chesapeake shard, LAW, Casey and Mystical.
After creating your character’s name, clothing, and male/female, you then embark to the next screen to set your character up. This is where you choose what you want to be once you enter the main city of Britannia. You can be a Warrior, Swordsman, Miner and Blacksmith, a Mage, or something as simple as a cook. The list is almost endless and is left up to you to play with.
After that you are then prompted to enter the city of Britannia. You land in Trammel which is a safe haven for new players and even the veterans. I say this because the one thing that most do not know is the fact that this game allows you to kill or attack other players in the game. Just think the police aren’t going to be called for this murder and mayhem either! Killings or other players are only allowed in the dark world of Felucca. Each world has about 15 cities to explore. Some are easy some aren’t. There are monsters, and dragons and even some RED Mages that can kill from a screen away. This is where the adventure begins. There is so much to explore.
Without going into too much detail of the game itself I am including a list of some of the pros and cons of the game. This is similar to a Dungeons and Dragons, however you will learn to meet some wonderful people in your quests.
PROS:
· Options to have several characters on each shard
· You do not have to set up a modem for this game, just use your current Internet Service Provider
· The ability to chat with others during the game on the screen without any interruption
· You are granted titles when you reach certain levels of notoriety
· User friendly
· You can do things that you normally can’t do in life
· Most importantly you can have fun
CONS:
· When a particular server goes down (on a shard) you can be disconnected during your quest
· Monthly service fee to play the game is $9.95
· The initial cost for the game is approximately $20.00
· Having the patience to learn and listen to others
The last one is the most important thing in the game. If you don’t like to hear suggestions or ideas from others starting off, then this game is not for you. Ultima online has brought many of us together to help others in conquering their quest in the new world.
If you haven’t heard of this game, then I suggest you check their home page out (listed above) and look into it some more. Everyone, including myself, said they would never play a game like this, and yet we are addicted! If you are interested in looking at what my husband and I have created for our guild on the game and to also receive some more information, please check us out at http://web.tampabay.rr.com/justice/
