Pros: Amazing interaction with people, huge world, hundreds of skills!
Cons: Addictive, All time consuming, drain on money, very hard to start off, CRAP CustomerService
The Bottom Line: Recommended just because of my wonderful experience with it, if you arent patient dont even bother. Unmatched game satisfaction than any other game ever!!! But beware of the crappy changes

Good lord where to start with this revolutionary game? I know i only give the game a rating of 3 stars but that is because of the diffuclutly starting and making a well rounded character. I must say that in the 2 years that i was under the spell of UO i became a hermit, sounded like a fool when talking with friends about the badass Vanq Heavy i got or the lagg that got me killed in destard killing the elder worm, spent many friday and saturday night during my highschool years at home in my room playing, grades dropped, and was totally happy with it....at the time. By my junior year(i am currently a sophmore in college) i decided i better move on the bigger and better things like a social life, plus they were making major changes to the game that totally killed the fun part...PvP.
Now that may sound a bit extreme to you, but believe me when you get past your "newbie" days in the game it is completely encompassing. Now i cant say that my experience with this game was bad because i was completly and uterly obsessed with it. It draws you in with the endless "macroing"(doing a single task over and over and over to gain skill) the pure adrenaline rush of PvP'ing a PK(player vs player..PK meaing Player Killer). I can count many a night i had to recall to the city so i could log out and calm my shaking hands so that i could fight effectivly. This may sound crazy but this game is really that addictive.
But sadly, as i said before, there have been some major changes that have totally killed the game play. The major one being stat and skill loss for murderers(PK's or anyone with more than 5 kills). I wont get into the complexity of everything in the game but a great site to check out before buying the game is http://uo.stratics.com They have tons and tons of information on how to start certian kinds of characters and what works best in game and everything else you could think to ask. But the basics are that you have a character in this online world called Britianna. You can do anything you like with him, from being a Mage\Warrior to a Tailor\Theif the possibilities are basically endless. This is what makes the game great, but EA(Electronic Arts) has made it difficult to have a well balanced character. They have put in "skill caps" so you can only attain a certian amount of skill overall which limits what your character can have skill wise. They do allow you to have up to 5 different characters, but it is still a pain to have to create different characters for different types of fighting and money making. Also there are a wide array of "shards" or servers that you can choose to play on, depending on where you are located in the world(they have forigen servers too). But this game is very tough to play when you only have a modem connection, Lag(the time differance of what is actually happening at EA's servers and what is being shown on your screen) can cause you to die at horriable times. I heavly recommend DSL or Cable for this game. And anyone under the age of 12-13 shouldnt attempt to play it is just to complicated. But if after all this you still want to give it a shot, go for it and enjoy. Then if you decide its not for you look for the many Player run shards that have sprung up...they run on many of the older rules that Veterans like much better and are almost always free to play on. The largest know one is Novus Opiate, you can find info at www.novusopiate.com
Well thank you for reading this far, i hope i helped and please read my other reviews!
